3 Feb:
It is great to be back. Friday afternoon and we have just had assembly and welcomed our 19 new children! Walking round the playground is fantastic with children happy and everyone genuinely pleased to be back. Waikuku School is a great place to be.
Food for thought below..........
This is an extract from a Judge at the Brisbane Juvenile Court:
“Always we hear the cry from teenagers, what can we do?
Where can we go? My answer is…”
Go home! Mow the lawns, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft,
get a job, visit the sick, study your lessons and after you’ve finished read a book!
Your town does not owe you recreation facilities: your parents do not owe you fun. The world does not owe you a living. YOU owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talents, so that no one will be at war, in poverty or sick and lonely again.
In other words, grow up, stop being a crybaby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone, not a wishbone. Start behaving like a responsible person.
You are important and you are needed. It’s too late to just sit around and wait for somebody to do something some day. Some day is NOW and that somebody is YOU!!

Dec 30:

A Star reporter rang me about a blog a red zone parent wrote recently that he read........

"The drive in and out is not too annoying yet although we have to look for other people's houses to visit if we have a bit of spare time between city events. So if we casually drop in for a coffee, be kind to us and don't feel used. We chose you because you were special!

I think the coolest part of the shift is the school the boys will start at next year. The Principal wants to market is as the 'anti-safe school - we run with scissors'. I love that and it is going to be the making of (childs name). He's into managing risk, they have a hedge with a magical labyrinth in it and guess what - the kids are allowed to play in it (just like the old days). They have a deal going that any kid who can do a lap of the netball court on the unicycle gets morning tea shouted from the Principal. (childs name) told him he could buy him lunch if he mastered it in less time and although he was told he would bleed trying, he's gearing up to the challenge. The school is designed for boys (bullrush included) and it is going to be great. It almost makes me want to go back teaching.
So that's a wee sum up of what's happening in Waikuku. We're happy to be there, happy to explore and happy to feel like we're living at the bach. Xmas will be happier for being out there and for that we're thankful."

I met with the reporter and then he wrote this article published today in the Star.

Have a great new year

Dec 11:
Just a quick note to keep you in the picture about the final week of the school year!!!!!
Have you bought your production tickets? It is costing us approx $900 but we want as many parents and family there as possible to support our children so tickets are only $2 each.
Monday:
School as usual. Children are to bring their togs each day please.
Board of Trustees meeting at 7pm in the staffroom
Tuesday:
Production rehearsing at Rangiora High School. We are leaving school school at 10 and will be coming back to school at 2:30.
Production is at 7pm at the Rangiora High School Hall. Can children be there at 6:30 please.
All children are expected to be there as all children have had a part to play in getting it together from making props through to those doing main parts.
Wednesday:
At 6pm we are having our final assembly for 2011 - our Prizegiving. It is under the oak tree. Children are in School uniform please.
Thursday:
THE BIG DAY OUT.
Past BDO's have been Spencer Park, Ice Skating, and the Waipara Boys Brigade Camp. Usually the destination is a secret but this year I have let people know that we are off to Waikuku Beach. This is so parents can send children along prepared. I have sorted Life guards to be there but the decision as to whether children will be swimming will be made at the BOT meeting on Monday night
We need spades, sun block, lunches, togs and wetsuits, boggie boards (if we are swimming).
For the newies to Waikuku School we have an action packed, not to be missed day that is just the best way to finish a great year. School starts at 9:30. Bus runs pick Waikuku children up at 9:00ish and Pegasus children up at 9:20. Parents and families are invited to join us. We leave school at 10am and are back by 2:30.
End of year survey:
We want to ensure we are a strong community based school providing what our community wants. I ask that you click on the link and fill in a survey that gives us your feedback on 2011 so we can use it in planning for 2012. Click on....http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/83FZ7B3
Thanks for your support this year,

We are really lucky to have such a great PTA. Suzy is an awesome leader and Andrew is a legend. Andrews energy and enthusiasm for the school was really evident in the Quiz night we had last night and ALL the prizes he managed to get - wow. $2000 raised.

Nov 23:
We have a Pegasus Parents group being organised by Suzy Valkhoff. They have several key concerns that they feel need prompt action and are working with the BOT. they are wanting to visit the local MP as well as hold a parents information night. These are a great group of parents and need your support. If you want to be involved....click here.

Nigel and I have met with Architect Hamish Boyd from Jazmax. Hamish has designed 'The Cloud' used on the Auckland waterfront and he also designed the Dunedin Stadium. He showed us Concept Plans for the new school and we took elements from each and came up with a couple of pretty exciting plan options that could be a go! I hear you say, "whats the point when we are unsure about the relocation?" The BOT and I are still 120% planning for the relocation until we are told otherwise.
There is an old adage, "Expect the best but plan for the worst"............ as far as Pegasus School planning goes, we are still "Expecting the best and planning for the best"

A friend just emailed me this. For those who can't do the Red Zone Bus Tour - this CERA movie is the next best thing. Click here to watch the movie

Nov 4:
In reference to Nigels letter to the community re: the Relocation to Pegasus. (see the Pegasus page on the website)
Yes, the letter from the MOE came as a bolt out of the blue. In saying that though, the problems in Chch are massive and it would be remiss of the MOE to proceed and spend mega millions on repairs and new schools without doing their homework and establishing a plan on how and where to proceed. This announcement is just part of the MOE trying to get a grasp on how they might proceed. Nothing is definite yet and we won't know until Term 1 next year exactly what is being proposed. This will come out as a consultation document and then the final plan will be signed off by the Minister in July.
I want to acknowledge the absolute commitment of our BOT Nigel, Tania, Stuart, Dax, Danelle and Jo and I know their leadership and genuine care for our children and school whanau will see the best possible result for our school.

Nov 1: 3 teams at Soccer (alright Football then) last night and it was stunning to see so many children enthusiastic and so many parents yelling on the sideline. The Year 3/4/5 team were awesome and thank you to Finn and Jonty too, a 3-1 win. The Divas first ever game for most of the girls and it was a 3 all draw - so thats as good as a win! Our Senior team in the super competitive league won 7-1 with Callum getting 5 goals.
A great effort all round. Yay us!
